RECENT FIRST TEAM FORM.

"December was a bit of a washout as far as the First eleven was concerned.

Three games were eventually played - an away defeat at St.Martins in a tough match where we nearly snatched a point at the death as the home team faded - the final result: St.Martins 2 Buckland 1.

The second game was a home win against Lapford. A game which could have ended in a six-all draw, as both sides squandered endless chances, but was finally decided when relieved fans watched substitute, Paul Hayes, clinch the match with the only goal of the game.

The last match of 1989 was an away draw at Pinhoe. After a disastrous start, giving away two goals and a subsequently missed penalty, we clawed our way back in an exciting second half to gain an important point.

The end of December saw us sitting in or around the top three in our division having played a couple of games more than most of our opposition.

RECENT RESERVE TEAM FORM.

In contrast, the Reserves have had a very good month, winning four games, the run finally ending on Saturday 30 December 1989 when they conceded five goals.

The sequence of good results saw them climbing nicely amongst the other promotion contenders.

Their eight points came from wins at Exeter University and St.Martin's Reserves and home wins against Bampton and Queens Head.

I hope that their recent defeat is only a minor hiccup and that they keep up the good work.

CLUB NEWS.

With the cancellation of the 1st Team match on Saturday 23 December 1989, it gave Dave Olford and myself the opportunity to invite a delegation of Devon and Exeter pitch inspectors to visit our new facilities at Decoy with a view to gaining entry into the top flight.

After a lengthy look at both the pitch and changing facilities the only stumbling block, apart from an insufficient league position at the end of the season, is some necessary modifications to the changing room arrangements.

Currently there are no away team facilities but this can be overcome and we will be approaching the local council as soon as we have received the written report from the pitch inspectors. I will keep you informed of our progress in this column in future months."
